Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You successfully address all parts of the task by covering the main features of the three charts provided, including the age distribution, loan categories, and the ten-year trend. Your overview captures the general patterns, such as the dominance of the 18-to-64 age group and the popularity of adult and children's fiction. However, some parts of your response are slightly under-developed and lack precision. For instance, your description of the ten-year loan trend is vague when you state that loans were 'between them' for the remaining years. To reach a higher level, you need to provide a more fully extended and precise summary of the data points, ensuring all highlighted comparisons are completely clear and well-supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
Your response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement, and you attempt to group information logically by connecting the pie chart and table data in the first half and the line graph trend in the final paragraph. However, your progression is hindered by a lack of proper paragraphing and run-on sentences. The entire response is essentially clumped together without clear paragraph breaks to separate the overview, the static charts, and the time-series graph. Furthermore, your use of cohesive devices is mechanical and repetitive, relying heavily on conjunctions like 'and' and 'while' rather than varied referencing. To improve, you should structure your writing into distinct paragraphs and use a wider variety of transitional phrases to guide the reader smoothly through the data.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You demonstrate an adequate vocabulary range to communicate the main points of the visual data, attempting some less common terminology such as 'contribution' and 'distribution'. However, your lexical resource is limited by frequent word-choice errors, incorrect word forms, and spelling mistakes. For example, you write 'laons' instead of loans, 'contruibutes' instead of contributes, and 'chlidren' instead of children. Additionally, phrases like 'types of laons contribution' and 'more loan is borrow' are unnatural and imprecise. To achieve a higher score, you need to expand your vocabulary of data-reporting phrases and ensure greater accuracy in spelling and word formation to avoid impeding the reader's understanding.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You display a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting to connect multiple clauses to describe the charts. However, your writing contains frequent grammatical errors and awkward syntactic structures that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'adults 18 to 64 members of library is 51 percent' and 'the adults member of library... are more than other', where plural and singular forms do not align. Furthermore, article usage is frequently missing or incorrect ('the table gives the types', 'in year of 2016'), and passive voice constructions are handled poorly, as seen in 'loan is borrow'. To improve, you must exercise better control over basic grammatical agreements, verb tenses, and sentence boundaries.
