Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task partially by attempting to describe the three distinct visual sources provided, but it lacks a fully developed overview and fails to adequately highlight key comparisons. While the writer mentions the primary age group (adults at 51 percent) and the general upward trend of loans from 2007 to 2016, the information is presented mechanically without synthesizing the data effectively. For instance, the discussion of the table regarding loan categories is vague, merely stating that 'adult's have higher percentage' without specifying that adult and children's fiction both share the highest individual category percentage of 38 percent. Furthermore, the mechanics of the charts are awkwardly explained rather than reporting the actual substantive trends and proportions, which keeps the response at this band level. To improve, the writer needs to present a clearer overall summary and select, highlight, and compare the most salient features across all three data sets.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates some organizational structure with an introduction, a body paragraph, and a concluding remark, but it lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, although the second and third paragraphs bundle multiple disparate charts together rather than grouping information logically. Cohesive devices are used repetitively or inaccurately; phrases like 'In pie chart', 'On the other side', and 'As we see' feel mechanical and do not establish smooth transitions between ideas. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the abrupt shift in the third paragraph to discuss the table using phrases like 'given in table which is categorized in the year 2016'. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure that information flows logically from one point to the next, employ a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices, and structure paragraphs so that each focuses on a distinct, well-sequenced aspect of the visual data.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, but the range is limited and contains noticeable errors that occasionally hinder fluency. The student relies heavily on basic or repetitive terms such as 'chart', 'shows', 'part', and 'loans'. There are also lexical inaccuracies and awkward word forms, such as 'Library number' instead of 'proportion of library members', 'space occupied by the childrens', and '15b' instead of '15%'. Spelling and word-choice errors, like 'btween' and 'loan taken', appear throughout the text. To move to a higher band, the writer should expand their lexical repertoire by incorporating precise reporting vocabulary (e.g., 'proportion', 'account for', 'fluctuate', 'peak') and ensure greater accuracy in word formation, plurals, and numerical abbreviations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response relies on a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex or compound sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in basic grammar, including missing articles ('In pie chart', 'in table'), incorrect prepositions ('in the year of 2016', 'btween the year of'), subject-verb agreement issues ('adult's have', 'children's has'), and incorrect punctuation. For example, sentences such as 'overall it varies in 2007 it starts from above the 15,000 and then it shows a constant fluctuation between these years and goes upto 22,000 in 2016' run-on and lack proper punctuation. To improve, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of grammatical structures, pay closer attention to articles and prepositions within grammatical patterns, and avoid run-on sentences by breaking complex thoughts into accurate, punctuated clauses.
