Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response attempts to cover all parts of the visual data by mentioning the pie chart, the table, and the bar chart. However, the information is only partially addressed due to limited development and some inaccuracies in reporting the data. For instance, the writer states that adults represent 51 percent and children 22 percent in the pie chart, but the overview lacks a clear synthesis of the main trends across the charts. The description of the bar chart simply notes that loans fluctuate and reach 22,000 in 2016 without adequately comparing the key data points over the ten-year period. To reach a higher band, the response needs to select and report the main features more accurately and provide fully developed comparisons rather than merely listing individual data figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic logical arrangement in the response, separating the introduction, the pie chart and table details, and the bar chart into distinct paragraphs. However, the overall progression is limited, and cohesive devices are somewhat mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'In the pie chart', 'On the other hand', and 'In the bar chart'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, for example in sentences like 'Overall, chart shows the age of library members is shown by pie chart'. Paragraphing is present, but the internal transitions within paragraphs need to be smoother and more varied to guide the reader effortlessly through the relationships between the charts. Improving logical connectors and ensuring precise referencing would elevate this aspect.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, providing a sufficient range to describe basic charts and percentages. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors that reflect a limited range, such as 'childrens' instead of 'children', 'adult's have higher percentage of taking loans', and 'record number of loan taken out'. Words and phrases are occasionally repeated, and less common vocabulary attempts result in awkward phrasing. To achieve a higher band score, the writer should use a wider variety of precise terminology related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'constituted', while ensuring correct word forms and minimizing lexical inaccuracies that cause minor hesitation for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The text displays a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response, including missing articles ('chart shows', 'in table'), incorrect verb forms ('is shown by pie chart', 'loan taken'), and poor punctuation control, particularly run-on clauses linked with commas instead of full stops or proper conjunctions (e.g., 'In the pie chart, 51 percent... members are shown as adults which is the major part, the 22 percent...'). While the errors rarely completely impede communication, their frequency restricts the writing to this band level. Incorporating a wider variety of accurate complex structures with reliable control over agreement and prepositions is necessary for improvement.
