Student answer (Band 6.0)
The charts illustrates the information about a public library in town called Little Chalfont. The first chart has a pie chart that illustrates the distribution of the library members, while the table beside it shows the proportions of loans by each category. The second bar graphs shows the trend of loans from year 2007 to 2016.
Little Chalfont library total had 100 visiting members of various age groups. The major age group in library was of adults aging from 18 to 64. Around 22 childrens visits the library which makes them the 2nd largest age group in library. Young adults and adults over 65 covers a small proportion relatively.
Based on the tabular data, childrens fiction and adult fiction are the two demanding category having around 76% of total loan. This is because of the fact that library is majorly visited by age group who likes to read fiction books. Other categories like children's non fiction, young adults, DVDs, adult non-fiction and adult audio books are less popular relatively to others.
Overall, the number of loans have been growing over the period of 9 years. Starting from 16,000 in 2007, the numbers has spiked to 22,000 in 2016. In the year 2013, there was a small drop in loans, nevertheless it was picked up instantly in the later years.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt, addressing the age distribution of library members, loan categories, and the overall 10-year trend in loans. The main features are identified and reported, such as highlighting adults aged 18 to 64 and children as prominent member groups, and noting that fiction categories dominate the loans. However, some ideas remain under-developed or touch upon unsupported speculation, such as stating 'This is because of the fact that library is majorly visited by age group who likes to read fiction books,' which goes beyond merely reporting the provided data. Key data points are generally accurate, and an overarching overview is provided in the final paragraph, satisfying the requirements for this band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The text presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introducing the charts, discussing membership and popular loan categories, to summarizing the multi-year loan trends. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the visual data. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Based on the tabular data' and 'Overall, the number of loans have been growing,' although referencing and linking can occasionally feel mechanical or slightly repetitive. While the overall structure works well to guide the reader through the three separate data sets, smoother transitions between sentences would elevate the organizational quality further.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating key information about the library data. The student attempts some less common vocabulary and phraseology, such as 'distribution,' 'proportion,' and 'demanding category,' though these are sometimes accompanied by minor inaccuracies in word choice or collocation (e.g., 'two demanding category' instead of 'most in-demand categories'). Spelling is generally good, and communication is not impeded by lexical errors. To move beyond this level, the student should aim for more precise lexical control and a wider variety of vocabulary to describe trends and proportions without repetition.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures. However, there are persistent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'The charts illustrates', 'the numbers has spiked'), missing articles or pluralization errors (e.g., 'in town called Little Chalfont', 'around 22 childrens visits'), and prepositional slips. Although these errors are noticeable and reflect a lower-intermediate control of grammar, they rarely impede overall communication. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to increase the proportion of error-free sentences and ensure greater accuracy in basic grammatical structures.
