Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the visual data by outlining member demographics, loan categories, and trends over time. However, some areas are under-developed or lack precision. For instance, the member percentages for the 18-64 age group are missing, and the figures for the overall loan trends are somewhat vague, stating '20,000 - 25,000 in the year 2016' rather than the exact data point of 21,700. Additionally, the word count falls slightly below the required 150-word minimum, which restricts full development. To reach a higher band, the student should ensure all main features are clearly reported with precise figures and meet the minimum length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a clear overall arrangement with information grouped logically into separate paragraphs for membership, loan categories, and long-term trends. Cohesive devices such as 'For the loan category' and 'according to the graph' are used to guide the reader. However, referencing and transitions are at times mechanical or slightly abrupt, such as the opening of the second and third paragraphs. Paragraphing is present, but progression could be smoother. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure seamless transitions between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and topic-specific terms like 'proportion', 'demographics', and 'fiction'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as 'shows adults with the age group of 18-64 shows' and 'seems less popular compares to'. Spelling and word choice errors are present, such as 'Last;y' and 'ahve', though they do not seriously impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on precise word forms, correct prepositions in collocations, and checking for typos before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over basic structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('adults... shows'), tense usage ('loans ahve been gradually increased'), and missing articles or prepositions. These errors sometimes cause friction for the reader. To move to a higher band, the student must produce a greater proportion of error-free complex sentences and exercise better control over verb tenses and passive structures when describing data trends.
