Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by selecting and reporting the main features of the three charts provided. You provide an adequate overview and cover the age of members, borrowing categories, and overall loan trends across the decade. However, some parts are developed more fully than others; for instance, the description of the loan trend contains minor inaccuracies, such as stating that 'in 2007, 16,000 member took loan' when the chart indicates approximately 15,700, and generalizing the 2010 to 2012 period loosely. To move into higher bands, ensure greater precision when reporting numerical data and extend the comparisons between the different charts more explicitly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to group information logically into paragraphs, such as separating the overview, membership demographics, category popularity, and loan trends. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, for instance, through transitional words like 'Overall', 'Moreover', and 'In 2007'. However, cohesion can sometimes feel mechanical or slightly repetitive, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the sudden shift into sentence structures like 'Fiction is the most popular category in children and adults both with 38% whereas DVDs with 6% and audio books with 2% are the least popular respectively.' Paragraphing is used sufficiently, but tighter logical transitions between the disparate charts would improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common terms such as 'classified', 'dominant share', 'senior citizens', and 'gradually'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as 'most number of loans' instead of 'the highest number of loans', 'least interested category' instead of 'least popular category', and spelling errors like 'libray' instead of 'library'. Additionally, phrases like 'took loan' sound unnatural compared to 'borrowed items'. These minor errors do not impede communication, but eliminating them and utilizing a wider variety of precise phrasing would elevate your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You make use of a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over basic structures and attempting more intricate patterns, such as 'Adults between 18 to 64 are the members holding dominant share of 51% followed by children by 22%...'. There are some noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('the most number of loans', 'took loan from library'), preposition errors ('form the libray'), and subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'total number of members... is approximately'). Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow your intended meaning clearly. To improve further, focus on article usage and prepositional precision within complex grammatical patterns.
