Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting an overview and covering the three visual sources: the pie chart, table, and bar graph. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the main features are touched upon, some parts are mechanical or unclear, such as the statement that 'adults playing crucial role' or the slightly confusing explanation of the percentages where '12% and 15%' are attributed to young adults and seniors respectively. Additionally, some details lack precision, such as describing loans as 'borrowed money'. The overview identifies the main trends and the dominance of adult members, but a tighter synthesis of the data would elevate the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure separating the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs detailing the specific data sets. However, cohesion is at times faulty and mechanical. Transitional phrases like 'In addition', 'At last', and 'In table under' are awkwardly applied rather than serving as fluid connectors. Referencing and logical progression between sentences falter slightly, notably in the transition from the pie chart details to the table data, where the flow of information becomes disjointed. Paragraphing is attempted adequately, but internal cohesion requires smoother links to guide the reader seamlessly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, though it remains quite limited and basic. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'distribution', 'fluctuates', and 'significantly', but these attempts are often accompanied by inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'loans are fluctuates each other' or stating that people 'borrowed money' instead of borrowing books/loans. There are also noticeable awkward phrasing choices like 'library was highest usage by adults' and 'one by fourth'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but the lexical range lacks the precision and flexibility needed to score higher.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures are frequently marred by structural errors. There are noticeable issues with subject-verb agreement and missing auxiliary verbs, such as 'The pie chart and table provides', 'adults playing crucial role', and 'total number of loans are taken'. Article usage is also problematic throughout the text, seen in phrases like 'in the year's from 2008-2011' and 'after that it as rise'. Despite these errors, the meaning is generally communicated, but the frequency of grammatical slips prevents the text from achieving a higher band.
