Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by summarising the three visual sources: the pie chart, the table, and the bar chart. It presents an overview and reports key features and comparisons, such as noting that adults aged 18-64 formed the largest proportion of members while those aged 65 and over accounted for the smallest. However, the performance sits at a mixed level because some details are under-developed or inaccurately reported. For instance, the data for the bar chart contains several transcription and reading errors, such as misstating the 2007 loan figure as 16,500 instead of approximately 15,700, and the response trails off abruptly at the end with 'Fi', leaving the description of the bar chart incomplete. To reach the next level, the student needs to ensure all data points are accurately read and reported, and fully develop every part of the overview without trailing off.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement and attempts to structure the information logically through paragraphing, separating the overview, pie chart details, table details, and bar chart trends. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is occasionally faulty, such as in the awkward transition 'In other terms, total number of loans 2011 and 2016 recored the highest'. Paragraphing is established, but the final paragraph is left unfinished, disrupting the logical progression of the text. To improve to a higher band, the student should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices to link ideas smoothly across sentences and paragraphs, ensure every paragraph is fully completed, and avoid abrupt or disjointed phrasing when introducing new data points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'proportion', 'consituated', and 'fluctuations'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'consituated' instead of 'constituted', 'perecntage' instead of 'percentage', and 'id' instead of 'is'. Additionally, the student frequently repeats basic vocabulary like 'accounted for', 'represented', and 'proportion'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to expand their range of vocabulary, eliminate spelling mistakes, and use synonyms and precise collocations to describe statistical trends with greater variety and accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as 'While the bar chart represents...' and 'whereas adults over 65...'. However, there are persistent errors in grammar, articles, and prepositions that recur throughout the text, including 'total number of loans took' (passive voice error), missing articles before nouns (e.g., 'stood in second position'), and prepositional errors like 'accounted same proportion by 2%'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with lowercase letters starting sentences. These errors rarely impede communication, but they prevent the writing from achieving a higher band. To progress, the student must exercise better control over complex sentence structures, ensure correct verb forms and prepositions, and proofread carefully for basic grammatical slips.
