Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by summarising the age distribution of members, the loan categories in 2016, and the overall loan trend across the decade. An overall trend is provided, and key features such as the dominance of adults aged 18 to 64 and the equal popularity of adult and children's fiction are properly highlighted with accurate data. However, the development is slightly uneven; some details, such as the exact percentages for smaller categories, are listed mechanically without deep comparison. To reach a higher band, the writing would need to present a fully extended and seamlessly integrated overview of all interconnected data trends without minor gaps in coverage.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The report demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from an introductory overview into body paragraphs detailing specific charts. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the demographic data from the loan statistics. Cohesive devices such as 'Looking first at' and 'In terms of' help guide the reader through the information, although referencing and transitions can occasionally feel slightly mechanical or repetitive (e.g., repeated use of 'following this'). To achieve the next level, cohesive devices could be applied more flexibly and implicitly, ensuring that the relationships between data points flow with greater naturalness and sophistication.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common functional terms such as 'distribution', 'proportion', and 'demographic'. There are occasional word choice and phrasing inaccuracies, such as 'young children' instead of 'young adults' and minor missing spacing or punctuation errors like 'in2016' and 'at12%'. However, these lexical slips do not impede communication. To move to a higher band, the vocabulary range should be wider and more flexible, incorporating more sophisticated collocations and precise reporting verbs with fewer occasional errors in word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including comparative clauses and introductory prepositional phrases. There are several grammatical errors present, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The charts illustrates'), tense inconsistencies ('total number of loans had rose'), and missing prepositions or articles ('at smallest proportion'). Nevertheless, these errors are mixed with correct structures and rarely impede communication. To reach the next tier, the writer needs to produce a greater variety of error-free complex sentences and demonstrate tighter control over tense usage and verb morphology.
