Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by providing an overview and reporting the main features across the three provided visual data sets. The student correctly identifies key details, such as the highest age group and the loan categories in 2016, alongside the upward trend in total loans over the decade. However, some parts are more fully developed than others; for instance, the explanation of the pie charts and tables contains slight confusion regarding the data presentation, as the student labels the line graph data as part of the 'table chart.' To reach a higher level, all data subsets should be fully integrated with clearer comparisons and more precise reporting without minor descriptive inaccuracies.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response presents a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical paragraph structure, moving from an introductory overview to body paragraphs detailing the charts. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader, such as 'Overall,' 'Starting from,' and 'Turning to.' However, referencing and transitions are at times mechanical or slightly faulty, as seen in phrases like 'After it' or the mixing up of the visual sources ('pie chart' versus 'table chart'). Paragraphing is present and appropriate for the task, but smoother transitions and clearer signposting of the distinct chart types would elevate the organizational clarity to the next level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the main trends and proportions using terms such as 'proportion,' 'comprised,' and 'continuous surge.' The writer attempts less common vocabulary, but this is sometimes accompanied by inaccuracies in word choice or collocation, such as 'gradua increase' (spelling slip), 'proportion of loan categorised,' and minor typos like 'Adut' and 'Young adultd.' Meaning is generally clear despite these flaws. To move higher, the student needs to demonstrate a more precise and flexible range of lexical items, ensuring correct word forms and minimizing spelling slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like 'While children's fiction contained...' and 'Subsequently, there was a continuous surge...' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as article omissions or awkward prepositional patterns (e.g., 'accounted for 51% of library,' 'carried similar amount of loan'). However, these errors rarely impede communication, and the majority of simple sentences remain clear. To achieve a higher score, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex structures and exercise tighter control over grammatical agreements and articles.
