Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response covers all parts of the task well, providing an overview of the main features and reporting relevant data across the charts. The overview accurately highlights key trends, such as the dominance of the 18–64 age group and fiction loans, alongside the overall upward trend in borrowing figures. However, some areas are slightly under-developed or contain minor inaccuracies in data interpretation, such as misreading specific values in the final paragraph regarding the timeline of loans. This positions the task achievement right between bands, successfully meeting the requirements of the lower descriptor while showing strong elements of the next.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement and presents a logical progression of ideas, moving from an overview into detailed breakdowns of membership, loan categories, and annual trends. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different visual elements. However, cohesion can feel somewhat mechanical and repetitive at times, with frequent reliance on basic linkers such as 'Firstly' and 'Moreover'. Referencing and logical transitions between the final sentences also become slightly strained, preventing the response from reaching a higher band. Overall, the structure is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common terms such as 'proportion', 'distribution', and 'category'. However, there are notable word choice and word form errors that emerge, such as writing 'togather' instead of 'together', and awkward phrasing like 'joint lowest categories' and 'gradual rose'. These lexical slips and inaccuracies do not impede communication, allowing the reader to understand the intended data, but they restrict the score because precision and control over collocation are not yet consistently demonstrated at a higher level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as subordinate clauses and comparative statements. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, articles, and prepositions, including 'The charts illustrates', 'in next three years', and 'was slightly drop'. Complex sentences are often faulty, and prepositional patterns within grammatical structures need better control. These errors require some effort from the reader to parse, placing the grammatical control at the appropriate band level. Expanding the range of error-free complex structures will be essential for future improvement.
