Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response covers all parts of the task successfully by reporting the main features of the three charts provided. You successfully identify key information, such as the peak membership age of 18-64 at 51%, the dominance of adult and children's fiction at 38% each, and the overall upward trend in loans from 2007 to 2016. An appropriate overview is included at the beginning, highlighting the main trends and dominant categories. While some specific details could be more thoroughly contrasted, the response provides clear, well-supported information throughout, meeting the requirements for this level nicely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your response maintains a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information is grouped sensibly into paragraphs, moving from an introduction and overview to specific age and category data, and finally to the trend in total loans over time. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Regarding age distribution', and 'Turning to total number of loans' are used effectively to guide the reader through the data, although a touch more variation in cohesive linking would elevate the writing further.
Lexical Resource: Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary with some flexibility and precision, using terms like 'distribution', 'proportion', 'constituted', and 'dominant category' appropriately. There are minor lexical inaccuracies, such as writing 'adult and children fiction' instead of 'adult and children's fiction', and 'adults non-fiction' instead of 'adult non-fiction'. However, these vocabulary choices do not impede communication and successfully convey the statistical information.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
This response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, achieving a solid foundation while showing part of the control required for higher bands. You use subordinate clauses effectively, as seen in 'although the figure increased from 19,000 to reach a peaked at around 22,000'. There are some grammatical errors, such as a missing subject or fragment ('While young adults aged 13-17 and adults 65 and over accounted for 15% and 12%, respectively') and tense/form slips like 'reach a peaked'. Punctuation errors like missing spaces after periods also occur, but these do not impede overall comprehension.
