Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully covers all parts of the visual data by outlining the membership demographics, loan categories, and the ten-year trend for total loans. You provide a clear overview in the second paragraph, highlighting that adults are the primary users and that fiction is the most popular genre alongside an upward trend in loans. However, some parts are developed more fully than others; for instance, the description of yearly loan fluctuations in the final paragraph reads like a mechanical listing of numbers rather than a synthesised report of key features. To reach a higher level, you should group the data more logically and select only the most prominent trends and comparisons instead of detailing every single year.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, overview, membership breakdown, category breakdown, and historical trend data. Information flows reasonably well, but cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. Phrases like 'if we look at the total number of loans' and 'if we categorize the total by category' feel conversational and clumsy rather than academic. Furthermore, referencing can be unclear, such as the transition into the final paragraph where you dive straight into year-on-year figures without a smooth linking phrase. To improve, ensure you use more sophisticated and unobtrusive cohesive devices to connect your ideas logically.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the statistical information about Little Chalfont library. You attempt some less common vocabulary such as 'categorically', 'demographics' (implied), and 'significant drop', but there are occasional errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'most loans were being taken on fiction' instead of 'borrowed' or 'loaned out', and 'with only 12 in numbers'. Spelling is generally accurate, but some lexical choices are repetitive or slightly unnatural for an academic report. To achieve a higher band, focus on using precise academic collocations and a wider variety of vocabulary to describe trends and proportions without repetition.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and time markers. There are some grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'The diagrams illustrates' (subject-verb agreement error), 'most loan was being taken' (singular/plural mismatch), and 'reaching to 21,000' (unnecessary preposition). Prepositions and articles also show occasional inaccuracy, such as 'taken on each year' instead of 'in each year'. However, these errors do not impede communication. To improve your grammatical range and accuracy, ensure careful proofreading for subject-verb agreement and precise control over verb tenses when describing past trends.
