The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The charts contain the information about a public library called Little Chalfont, in a town. The charts demonstrate all the information about the total number of loans provided from 2007 to 2016.
Overall, the data is illustrated in the form of three charts. The diagram shows age of library members according to 2016 census whereas the table has categorized total loans taken in 2016 in teh form of percentags. However, the graph below shows the total number of loans taken in nine years interval.
From the data of 2016, it is evident that a large number of adults use to visit library accounting for 51 members which is almost double to the amount of children who visit library representing a number of 22. The number of adults over 65 who visit library are 10 times less than children and 3 times less than the number of young adults from the age 13 to 17.
Moreover, children and adult fiction accounts for the biggest portions from the loan about 38% each with the adult non fiction only accounting for 14%. A very minimal contribution is seen by children non fiction about 6%, young audio books and young adults about 2%, and the least accounting for children's DVD about only 1%.
In 2007, the total number of loans was about 16000 which increased drastically in the next two years to about 19000. Over next 3 years, it increased to nearly 21000, which decreases again to 19000 in 2013 and went back to 21000 and remained constantly increasing and reached 22000 in 22000.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting key data from the three charts provided, including age distribution, loan categories, and the 10-year trend in total loans. However, some aspects are unevenly developed or contain slight inaccuracies. For instance, the reference to '51 members' misinterprets the census data, which represents 51% of adults or a specific group proportion rather than just 51 individual members, and the concluding sentence mentions an impossible figure of '22000 in 22000'. While an adequate overview is provided and main features are highlighted, the lack of complete data precision and some under-developed comparisons prevent the response from achieving a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the information logically into an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs addressing different charts. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'From the data of 2016', and 'Moreover', but referencing and transitions are at times mechanical or slightly awkward, as seen with 'However, the graph below shows...'. Paragraphing is present and generally appropriate, but the logical progression between sentences can feel disjointed, restricting the writing to a competent middle level.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
An adequate range of vocabulary is deployed for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'census', 'proportion', 'categories', and 'drastically'. The writer attempts less common vocabulary, though there are occasional inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as 'teh' instead of 'the', 'percentags', and 'young audio books' instead of adult audio books. These errors do not impede communication, but they highlight limitations in precision and collocation that keep the lexical score at this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures such as relative clauses and comparative constructions. However, there are noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing throughout, including missing articles ('visit library' instead of 'visit the library'), incorrect prepositions ('from the loan'), subject-verb agreement issues ('adults use to visit'), and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but frequent minor errors in grammar structures constrain the overall accuracy and prevent the score from rising further.
