Student answer (Band 5.5)
The given chart contains data of a local library in a town called Little Chalfont. It tells us about the percentage age variation of library members, total loans by category and its trend over a decade.
Overall, most of the frequent visitors to the library are adults. They add about 51% to the total percentage of library members while the minimum contribution is that of adults over the age of 65. They make about 12% in the total. The total loans contain 38% of children and 38% of adult fiction. Least is that of children's DVDs (1%), adult audio books and young adults (2%).On the other hand, the total number of loans have experienced an increase; rising from around 15000 to more than 20000.
The wheel on the upper left side illustrates age of library members according to which, young adults make about 15% while childrens are about 22%. It appears that teenagers from age 13 to 17 are rarely intrested in book reading.
On of the obvious reason could the lack of genres that excites these young minds. It can be clearly seen that total number of loans for the young adult catagory is only 2%.
Futhermore, the sum of loans have faced many rise and decline over the past 10 years but overall increased by 5000.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by summarizing the main features of the charts, such as the age distribution, loan categories, and the 10-year trend in total loans. However, some areas are treated superficially while others are over-elaborated. For instance, the discussion of the 13–17 age group moves into speculation regarding why teenagers are not interested in reading, which goes beyond simply reporting the data. Main features are adequately covered, but certain parts lack consistent depth, aligning with a satisfactory level where relevant ideas are presented yet some are under-developed or less precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement and provides a clear overview of the data in the opening paragraph. However, the organization of subsequent paragraphs is somewhat fragmented, featuring isolated sentences and unusual layout choices, such as treating the wheel/pie chart details separately from the initial overview. Cohesive devices are used, but referencing and linking across sentences can feel slightly mechanical or abrupt, as seen in phrases like 'On the other hand' and 'Futhermore'. Paragraphing requires better structural progression to achieve a smoother flow of ideas throughout the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer attempts an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully using terms like 'distribution', 'percentage', and 'category'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors such as 'Futhermore' and 'intrested', alongside minor word-choice or collocation slips like 'add about 51% to the total percentage' instead of 'account for'. While these lexical inaccuracies do not impede overall communication, they prevent the response from achieving a higher band. To progress, the student needs to demonstrate more precision in word choice and eliminate basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over basic structures. There are, however, several grammatical and punctuation errors present, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the total number of loans have experienced' instead of 'has') and prepositional inaccuracies ('reason could the lack'). Punctuation slips also occur, such as the missing space before 'On the other hand'. These errors do not seriously impede meaning, but they occur with enough regularity to restrict the score to a moderate level of grammatical accuracy.
