Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response attempts to cover all three visual data sets, presenting an overview and some key features. However, the information is frequently inaccurate or confused. For instance, the writer misinterprets the age breakdown chart, stating that 'children were 22 years old' instead of reading that there were 22 children. Furthermore, data values are incorrectly reported or invented in the final paragraph, such as claiming loans reached 240,000 in 2013, which does not match the provided chart. These inaccuracies and limited, under-developed selection of main features mean the response addresses the prompt only partially.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The text is organized into paragraphs and attempts to sequence information logically, moving from membership data to loan categories and trends over time. However, overall progression is hindered by confusing transitions and mechanical cohesive devices like 'To begin with,' 'Apart from that,' and 'Despite this.' Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the ambiguous linking between sentence elements in the overview paragraph. Paragraphing is present, but the internal flow of information lacks clarity and smoothness.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary and appropriate statistical terms, such as 'categories,' 'proportions,' and 'trend.' However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as writing 'larger in numbers who attending' instead of 'larger in number' and 'surged' used inconsistently. Spelling is generally accurate, but awkward phrasing causes some difficulty for the reader and prevents higher lexical scoring.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing relies on a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences often result in frequent grammatical errors. There are issues with verb forms and tenses, such as 'who attending' and 'began to surged,' as well as errors in subject-verb agreement and prepositions. For example, writing 'loans reached at the top' and 'numbered 240,000 loans' demonstrates weak control over grammatical patterns. These frequent errors cause noticeable difficulty and distraction for the reader.
