Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting an overview of the charts, including member age distribution, loan categories, and trends over time from 2007 to 2016. However, some aspects are under-developed or contain inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, the overview lacks precision, and certain details such as the exact loan figures or precise percentages are occasionally vague or missing proper context. The selection of main features is generally relevant, noting that adults aged 18-64 dominate membership and that fiction categories are the highest, but the overall development of ideas remains somewhat limited and requires greater depth in drawing comparisons across the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into an introduction, body paragraphs, and an overview section. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. The use of transitional markers like 'At first glance', 'To begin with', and 'On the other hand' helps organise the text, but referencing is occasionally unclear, such as abrupt shifts between sentences in the second body paragraph. Paragraphing is present, but logical progression between ideas is occasionally disrupted by disjointed phrasing, placing the organisation at a level where structure is visible yet somewhat clumsy in execution.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing a minimally sufficient range of terms to discuss the charts. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'dominate' and 'drastic change', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form. Examples include 'persent' instead of percent, 'menbers' instead of members, 'younger adults' instead of young adults, and awkward phrases like 'kid's DVD's are lowest'. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling errors are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader without completely impeding communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors involving subject-verb agreement, articles, plurals, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns. For instance, 'The supplied information illustrate' contains a clear agreement error, and phrases like 'as there ratio is more than other' display incorrect word usage and structural flaws. Punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas and erratic capitalization, are also present. These errors persist throughout the text, impacting the overall accuracy of the writing.
