Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response attempts to cover the mixed charts by presenting some data regarding ages, loan categories, and trends over time. However, the information is only partially addressed and contains several inaccuracies in reading the visual data. For example, the student incorrectly states that the proportion for young adults 13-17 and adults 65 and over were 12% and 15% respectively, whereas the chart shows 22% for children and 12% for those aged 65 and over. Furthermore, the description of loan categories is confused, stating that 'Children's fiction and adult ficton were take the loan 38%' without clear distinction, and the final trend description cuts off incomplete. Ideas remain limited and under-developed, and the overview merely lifts phrases from the prompt rather than synthesizing the main trends effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates some organisation with basic paragraphing separating the introduction, overview, and body details, but there is no clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or inaccurately, such as abrupt transitions ('While the children representing the 22%', 'Similarly, the young adults... were the 12%') and repetitive sentence openings. Referencing within sentences is occasionally unclear, which disrupts the logical flow. To improve, the writer needs to group related data more logically and use cohesive ties more naturally to guide the reader smoothly through the comparative points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Vocabulary is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey basic statistical comparisons. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as spelling mistakes ('munber', 'ficton'), awkward word choices ('were take the loan'), and incorrect word forms ('adult aged 18-64' instead of 'adults'). Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success, and these inaccuracies occasionally cause some difficulty or hesitation for the reader. Expanding the range of reporting verbs and noun phrases while ensuring accurate spelling and word formation will help lift the lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing relies on a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are recurrent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the adults aged 18-64 has', 'adult non-fiction represented the 13%, while the children's non fiction represented'), missing articles ('lowest proportion in the member of a library'), and incorrect prepositions or verb phrases ('were take the loan'). These frequent errors require the reader to re-read parts of the text to grasp the meaning. Greater control over basic sentence patterns and better accuracy in verb forms are essential for improvement.
