Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by summarizing the information across the three visual representations provided, presenting an overview of the main features and making relevant comparisons. For instance, the writer correctly contrasts the proportions of library members by age group in 2016 and reports the loan categories. However, some aspects of the task are only partially developed. The reporting of data contains slight inaccuracies or confusion between percentages and raw figures, such as stating '51% adults' and describing loan categories somewhat disjointedly. Furthermore, the selection of data leans towards listing rather than fully synthesizing the trends, keeping the development at an intermediate level where key comparisons are made but could be extended more clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from an introductory statement to body paragraphs covering member demographics, loan categories, and trends over time. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different charts and themes. Cohesive devices such as 'meanwhile', 'on the contrary', and 'in the same year' are utilized to guide the reader through the data, although referencing and linking are sometimes a bit mechanical or repetitive. The half-band achievement reflects a clear logical structure and adequate overall organisation that successfully links ideas, even though some transitional phrases could be managed with greater flexibility to reach a higher descriptor level.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating information about charts, percentages, and trends. The writer makes valid attempts at less common vocabulary items such as 'cursory glance', 'fluctuations', and 'proportion', showing some awareness of academic style. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and word formation, such as 'childrens' instead of 'children', 'most loan which was 38% was due to', and 'numbers raised' instead of 'numbers rose'. These errors do not impede communication, but they highlight limitations in lexical precision and control that prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordinate clauses and comparative structures like 'while 51% adults... were library members, adults 65 and over were just 12%.' There are, however, frequent errors in grammar and sentence structure throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('toal number of loans were'), incorrect phrasing ('childrens'), and awkward prepositional or structural patterns ('most loan which was 38% was'). While these errors rarely completely impede understanding, they recur often enough and cause enough structural awkwardness to sit firmly within the intermediate grammar descriptor.
