Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the various data sets provided in the visual prompt, including the age groups, the categories of loans, and the multi-year line graph. However, the information is only partially and somewhat inaccurately addressed. For instance, the student misidentifies the first chart as a pie chart rather than a bar chart or breakdown of members, and there are significant confusions in the reporting of the loan categories, such as stating that adult audio books represent 32 percent when the source data indicates 2 percent. Furthermore, the overview is extremely basic and lacks a fully developed summary of the main trends across the charts, reflecting a limited grasp of the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation present, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. The student attempts to transition between the different visual elements using phrases like 'so the first table shows' and 'so this graph shows', but these cohesive devices are repetitive, mechanical, and inadequate for guiding the reader smoothly through the data. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with a large block of text jumbling together multiple distinct data points without logical separation. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow which chart or data set is being discussed at any given time.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The student relies heavily on basic, repetitive terms and experiences noticeable lexical inaccuracies, such as using 'shares of students' instead of library members, and writing 'atfer' (after). There are also confusion-inducing errors in numerical terminology and data reporting, such as misstating percentages. While some basic topic-related vocabulary appears, such as 'fiction', 'non-fiction', and 'loans', the range is narrow and insufficient to demonstrate flexibility or precision, frequently causing difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting predominantly of simple sentences and basic structures. When the student attempts more complex sentence forms, they are frequently faulty, missing key verbs, articles, or prepositions, as seen in constructions like 'overall the most of shares in library are adults 18 to 64 and least are over age of 65 adults young and childrens are almost equal.' Frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization, subject-verb agreement, and word forms are present throughout the text, causing noticeable difficulty for the reader, though the core meaning of some basic points can still be gleaned.
