Student answer (Band 5.5)
The three diagrams demonstrate the information about a public libray in a town, named Little Chalfont Library in 2016. Overall, the pie-chart illustrates proportions of library members by age, the table provides the details of total loans by category, and the bar chart illustrates the total number of loans that had been taken between 2007 and 2016.
On the pie-chart, there are four age group and adults from 18 to 64 age had the greatest proportion on the chart with 51%. Children were on the second with 22%. Young adults (13-17) and adults above 65 and over had the lowest proportion with 15% and 12% respectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task partially, as the reporting of data contains notable inaccuracies and omissions. For instance, the student states that the lowest recording on the bar chart was in '2017', which is outside the given timeframe (2007–2016) and misreads the starting year of 2007. Furthermore, the overview mentions the types of charts correctly, but the selection of key features is sometimes imprecise; the student mentions that adults aged 18 to 64 had the greatest proportion at 51%, which is accurate, but misses key details in the loan trends such as the peak and general upward trajectory over the decade. Ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed, preventing the response from achieving a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, dedicating an introduction, a paragraph for each chart, and a concluding point. However, cohesion relies on somewhat mechanical transitions, such as starting consecutive paragraphs with 'On the pie-chart,' 'On the table,' and 'On the bar chart.' Referencing and logical progression are generally maintained throughout, but the heavy reliance on formulaic phrasing and repetitive sentence openings prevents a smoother flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying basic statistical concepts using terms like 'proportion', 'greatest proportion', and 'respectively'. There are some successful attempts at less common vocabulary, but word-choice and spelling inaccuracies appear, such as 'libray' instead of 'library' and describing categories as not being 'regular'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, allowing the reader to understand the intended data despite occasional flaws in lexical precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response employs a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, but frequent errors in grammar and punctuation can cause some difficulty. Examples include 'adults from 18 to 64 age had' instead of 'adults aged 18 to 64', and 'adults above 65 and over' which contains redundant phrasing. Additionally, article errors ('the pie-chart') and awkward prepositions appear. These recurring errors indicate limited control when attempting complex structures, keeping the grammar score at this level.
