Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by summarizing the three visual sources: a pie chart detailing age demographics, a table showing loan percentages by category, and a bar chart illustrating overall loan trends between 2007 and 2016. An overview is provided that captures the main features, such as the predominance of adult members, the peak categories in the table, and the general upward trend in the bar chart. However, some aspects are under-developed or mechanically listed rather than fully integrated into a cohesive comparative overview, which keeps the score at this level rather than higher. Key figures, such as 51 adults and 38 percent for fiction loans, are accurately cited.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dedicating individual paragraphs to distinct charts and an overview. Information flows with some logical progression, moving from introductions to overviews and specific details. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and awkward, notably with transitions like 'menwhile', 'And', and 'Lastly', which affect the natural flow of ideas. Additionally, referencing could be clearer, as sentences occasionally begin abruptly without proper linking to preceding statements. These formatting and connective limitations place the response comfortably within this band.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for describing graphical data, attempting terms like 'illustrates', 'category', 'percentage', and 'steady increment'. However, there are notable spelling errors and typos, such as 'pi' instead of pie and 'menwhile' instead of meanwhile. Word choice and phrasing are occasionally awkward or repetitive, such as 'are on top' and 'at same level', demonstrating limited flexibility. While communication is not severely hindered, these lexical shortcomings prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over basic structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in article usage, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'In pie chart' missing the article, 'highest number of the age of library members' being structurally confused, and 'category's percentage' displaying incorrect punctuation. While these errors rarely impede communication entirely, the persistence of basic grammatical slips and limited control over complex formations characterizes this level.
