Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the main features of the visual data, reporting details such as membership percentages and loan categories for 2016, as well as the trend in total loans from 2007 to 2016. However, some aspects of the task are only partially covered or lack precision. For instance, the reference to the pie chart is inaccurate as the provided data includes mixed charts and tables rather than multiple pie charts. Ideas are limited and under-developed, with basic reporting of figures without fully synthesising the comparisons where relevant. To reach a higher level, the response would need to provide a more accurate overview of all the visual components and fully develop the comparisons between different age groups and loan categories.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation in the text, with an introduction, body sections, and an overall statement. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow between sentences is occasionally disrupted by mechanical or repetitive phrasing, such as the frequent use of 'We can see'. Cohesive devices are basic and sometimes inaccurate, leading to a choppy structure. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks clear cohesion. To improve, the writer needs to ensure a smoother logical transition between ideas and use a wider, more accurate variety of cohesive devices to guide the reader through the data.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, such as 'tow' instead of 'town', 'Cgalfont', 'cgart', 'totel', and 'rose' instead of 'rise'. These lexical errors and awkward collocations cause some difficulty for the reader. The range of vocabulary is restricted mostly to basic terms related to the charts. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire to include less common vocabulary related to data reporting and eliminate basic spelling and word-choice errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple forms and repetitive subject-verb patterns. Attempts at complex sentences often result in grammatical faults, such as missing verbs or incorrect prepositional phrases, as seen in 'The charts shows, the information about library' and 'from 2011 number of loan slightly declined'. There are frequent errors in articles, plurals, and verb tenses that can cause difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer should incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures while improving accuracy in basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and tense consistency.
