Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response falls significantly short of the 150-word minimum, containing only 119 words, which severely restricts its ability to cover all parts of the task. While the writer attempts to introduce the charts and mention a few details such as age groups and loan percentages, the overview is incomplete, and the data is only partially addressed. The response abruptly stops mid-sentence, leaving the information underdeveloped and missing key comparisons and trends from the visual data. To reach a higher level, the writer must ensure the length requirement is met and fully summarize all main features presented in the mixed charts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The writing demonstrates some basic organization with an initial attempt at an introduction and an overall statement. However, there is no clear progression of ideas across the text, and the response ends abruptly with the dangling conjunction 'However' at the end of an incomplete paragraph. Paragraphing is poorly handled, and cohesive devices are inadequate or missing, making it difficult for the reader to follow a logical structure. To improve, the writer needs to structure the response into distinct paragraphs with clear topic sentences and use appropriate cohesive links to sequence information smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, featuring basic terms such as 'chart', 'loans', and 'people'. There are noticeable word choice and form errors, such as 'childen' instead of 'children' and awkward phrasing like 'that has taken loans'. The range is minimally adequate to convey basic concepts about the topic, but frequent inaccuracies in word formation and collocation prevent clearer communication. To achieve a higher score, the writer should incorporate a wider variety of precise, less common vocabulary related to data reporting and ensure correct word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammar demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple or basic complex forms that frequently contain errors. There are notable issues with subject-verb agreement and relative clauses, such as 'the adults that are over 65 years old' and 'people that have taken the loans... It consisted children'. Errors occur frequently throughout the short text, causing some difficulty for the reader and hindering clarity. To progress, the writer needs to demonstrate better control over complex sentence patterns, verb forms, and prepositions.
