Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all parts of the visual data by summarising the pie chart, table, and line graph, thereby earning a strong overall score. Main features and key trends are identified, such as the dominance of the 18-64 age group and the upward trajectory of total loans from 2007 to 2016. However, it sits at this level because some aspects are slightly under-developed or contain minor inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, the reference to children's and adult diction (fiction) having 'highly percentages with 38% value' lacks precision, and the description of the line graph misses some finer comparative nuances between intermediate years. To reach the next band, the response would need to provide a more fully developed and rigorously accurate overview of all data sets without minor omissions or vague generalisations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the information logically into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs dedicated to the different charts. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'Moreover', 'Overall', and 'Furthermore', meeting the baseline requirements for logical progression. Nevertheless, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, as seen in awkward transitions and referencing issues. For example, the linkage between sentences in the final paragraph regarding the loan trends can feel abrupt and difficult to follow smoothly. To achieve a higher band, the student must ensure that cohesive devices are used more naturally and that the progression of ideas from sentence to sentence is seamless rather than disjointed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey basic data points such as percentages and categories like 'fiction' and 'non-fiction'. The student also attempts less common vocabulary items and phrases, including 'dominate with half proportion' and 'gradually'. However, the vocabulary is limited by noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally impede smooth communication. Examples of lexical slips include 'attendes' instead of attendees, 'diction' instead of fiction, 'highly percentages', 'least one proportion', 'hipe' instead of hike, and 'Concequently'. These persistent inaccuracies prevent the lexical score from moving into higher territory. Expanding lexical precision and mastering word forms will be essential for future improvement.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as subordinate clauses and comparative constructions. However, the grammatical range is limited, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are recurrent errors in verb forms, tenses, and missing prepositions or articles, such as 'line graph representes', 'are nearly equal attendance', 'show double in ratio', and 'The total number of loans gradually from...'. These frequent errors in grammar and punctuation cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control over complex syntactic structures. To progress, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free sentences and exercise better control over basic verb agreement and tense consistency.
