Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify some relevant features, especially the equal 38% shares for children’s and adult fiction and the low shares for DVDs and audio books. However, the response only partially reports the charts and includes important inaccuracies. The library is in Little Chalfont, not “clifton,” and the loan chart ends in 2016, not 2020. The claim that loans remained around 21,000–23,000 from 2010 to 2020 overlooks the actual fluctuations and gives an incorrect period and range. You also omit the age profile, where adults aged 18–64 form the largest group, and do not clearly summarise the overall trend. Select the main features from all three displays and check dates and figures carefully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation: an opening statement is followed by an overview and paragraphs about loan categories and totals. This gives the reader a basic sense of the response’s structure. However, progression is limited because the overview repeats information from the category paragraph, while the final paragraph ends abruptly after describing 2008. Linking words such as “However” and “Furthermore” are used, but some connections are unclear or repetitive, and the age chart is not integrated into the report. Use one paragraph for the overview and organise the details in a clear sequence, covering each chart without repeating points. Complete each comparison so the reader can follow the trend from beginning to end.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “contribution,” “fluctuations,” and “increased,” and the reader can generally identify the categories being discussed. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “loans used,” “second number,” and “loan number was counted.” Spelling errors—including “higest,” “laon,” “Furtheremore,” and “arounf”—also reduce precision. Aim for standard chart language, for example, “accounted for,” “the second-largest share,” and “the number of loans.” Check spelling and use consistent terms such as “loans” or “loan volume” rather than switching between awkward formulations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a few longer sentences and use basic comparison structures, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently. For example, “the number of loans given were remain same” combines incompatible verb forms and has subject–verb disagreement; “have take” and “were remain” also show problems with verb forms. Articles and sentence construction are often missing or inaccurate, as in “a slighlty increased occur.” Some sentences remain understandable, but the errors make relationships and timing harder to follow. Practise forming clear past-tense statements for the 2007–2016 data, and use simple, accurate patterns such as “Loans rose to…” and “The figure remained stable, with slight fluctuations.”
