Student answer (Band 6.0)

The charts below illustrates the information about a public library in a small town called Little Chalfont. The datas are given in several ways such as age group of members in pie chart , total loans by category in table and total number of loans given in between 2007 to 2016 in bar graph.

Overall, half of the members were adults and remaining half are children's, adults above 65 and young adults. Moreover, for the loans by category, children's and adults fiction had the highest percentage. Whereas, children's DVDs were least among the all. The bar graphs represents upward trend in terms of number of loans.

In the Little Chalfont library in 2016, 51 members were adults in age group of 18-64 which was more than half of members. In the remaning 49, 22 were children's, 15 were young adults and 12 were adults above 65.

For the loans given by Little Chalfont library in 2016 were provided 38% to children's and adults fiction respectively. Which was the highest among the category. However, apart from this two category not many loans were provided but the least was 1% for children's DVDs.

Furthermore, the total number of loans provided in 2007 were 16,000, which was the least amount of all. After that, the graph follows the upward trend from 2008 which led to 18,000. In addition to that, in 2016 it reached it's all time high at 23,000.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover all three visuals and provide a clear overview: adults aged 18–64 form the largest membership group, fiction leads the loan categories, and loans generally rise over time. The category figures are reported accurately, including the shared 38% for adult and children’s fiction and the 1% for children’s DVDs. However, the membership figures are percentages, not numbers of members, so “51 members” and “22 were children’s” misrepresent the chart. The loan trend is also overgeneralised: it fluctuates after 2010 rather than rising steadily, and the final figure is about 21,700, not 23,000. Include the intermediate peaks and dips to make the trend more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for membership, loan categories, and the time series. This makes the main information easy to locate, and transitions such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” help signal shifts. The overview also gives the reader a useful summary before the details. To make the progression more precise, connect the figures within the time-series paragraph rather than presenting a simplified rise from 2008 to 2016; the movement includes a peak, a decline, and later recovery. Some linking is mechanical or awkward, particularly “In addition to that,” and “Whereas” begins a fragment. Clearer sentence connections and more precise referencing would strengthen cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a suitable range of task vocabulary, including “age group,” “percentage,” “category,” “upward trend,” and “all time high,” so the charts remain understandable. There are also attempts to vary wording, such as “loans provided” and “loans given.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “datas” is not the correct plural, “children’s” is used where “children” is needed, and “not many loans were provided” is vague for describing the smaller categories. “The graph follows the upward trend” also sounds imprecise because the figures fluctuate. Aim for concise chart language such as “accounted for,” “stood at,” and “rose overall, despite fluctuations,” while checking word forms and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and the overall meaning is generally clear. Some sentences are controlled, such as “In the remaining 49, 22 were children’s, 15 were young adults and 12 were adults above 65,” although the chart figures are percentages. There are some grammatical errors that reduce accuracy: “The charts below illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “Which was the highest among the category” is an incomplete sentence. The opening sentence also has an awkward structure, and “the total number of loans provided in 2007 were” mismatches a singular subject with a plural verb. Review agreement, sentence boundaries, and the use of complete clauses; these corrections would make your varied structures more reliable.
