Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several relevant features, including the largest membership group, the smallest loan category, and the overall rise in loans from 2007 to 2016. You also report useful figures such as 51% for adults aged 18–64 and 38% each for children’s and adult fiction. However, coverage is partial and some key details are inaccurate: the peak is about 21,700 in 2016, not 23,000, and the 2010–2012 figures are around 20,600–21,000 rather than a clear increase to 21,000. The overview also calls the age chart a pie chart, though the main issue is that the loan trend’s fluctuations are not clearly summarised. Select the main comparisons and report them precisely to develop the response more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the membership/category information and the loan trend. This gives the reader some organisation. However, progression within paragraphs is often unclear, and several sentences repeat the same point, such as stating more than once that 2016 had the highest loans. Linking is limited and sometimes awkward: “In 2010 to 2012” does not clearly explain how the figures change across those years, while “The Young adults… and Adults 65 and over… have a maynore difference” is difficult to follow. Use clearer topic sentences and connect comparisons directly—for example, contrast the stable 2008–09 total with the later fluctuations—so the report reads as a connected summary rather than a list of observations.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “members,” “loans,” “percentage,” and “total number,” and you attempt to describe comparisons and trends. However, the range is limited, and repeated or inaccurate expressions sometimes make the meaning difficult to understand. Examples include “very few total,” “a mejore difference,” and “hayest number”; these do not express the intended comparisons naturally. There are also frequent spelling errors, such as “illustrat,” “grafe,” “aproxe,” and “lowyest,” which reduce clarity. Build a small set of accurate chart-description phrases and check spelling carefully. For instance, use “accounted for” when describing shares and “fluctuated” when a figure rises and falls.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Most sentences use simple patterns, and attempts to combine information are often inaccurate. For example, “In line grafe it have a total number of loans” has an unclear subject and incorrect verb form; “The Adults 18-64 age have a 51 members” also has problems with agreement and sentence structure. Articles and plural forms are inconsistent, as in “a total number” and “22 members” when describing a percentage. Tense and sentence boundaries also need attention, particularly in “The hayest number of loans in 2016 it is a 23,000.” These errors sometimes make relationships between figures hard to interpret. Practise accurate subject–verb patterns such as “The figure for adults was 51%,” then add controlled comparisons using “while” or “whereas.”
