Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You identify the main features clearly: adults form the largest membership group, fiction is the leading loan category for both children and adults, and loan totals generally remain around 20,000 after the initial rise. The figures you report for adults (51%), fiction (38%), DVDs (1%), and the low point in 2007 are consistent with the chart. You also make relevant comparisons across the categories and years. However, some details are incomplete or imprecise: you do not give the membership figures for the other age groups, and you call young adults the smallest membership group without stating their 15% share (the 65-and-over group is smaller, at 12%). The final trend summary also overlooks the decline after 2011 and the subsequent recovery. More precise coverage of these features would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing the membership and loan data. The overview helps the reader understand the main comparisons before the details, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” show an attempt to connect points. This gives the report a coherent overall arrangement. However, the progression within the final paragraph is less clear: the years are grouped broadly, while the movement between the peak, decline, and recovery is not explained. Some transitions are also repetitive, and the long overview sentence combines several separate findings. To move further, organise each data set in a clearer sequence and use referencing and linking more naturally, rather than relying repeatedly on the same connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for describing charts, including “largest proportion,” “accounted for,” “fluctuating,” and “in-depth analysis.” These choices allow you to report comparisons and trends, and the intended meaning is generally clear. There are, however, several inaccurate or awkward choices that limit precision. “The adults were the highest proportion” is less natural than saying adults made up the largest share, while “the lowest part of library users” is unclear. “Catagory” is misspelled, and “the number of loans … was fluctuating near 20,000” does not describe the pattern as precisely as the data allows. Aim for accurate collocations and avoid inflated phrases such as “more in-depth analysis” when a direct description would be clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while” and “which,” and the overall meaning can usually be followed. However, grammatical control is uneven, with errors in agreement, articles, sentence boundaries, and punctuation. For example, “the adult and children's fiction was equal” has an awkward singular construction, and “the total number of loans were lowest” should use a singular verb. In “the young adults … were the lowest part,” the comparison is not expressed with a clear grammatical structure. Several sentences also run together or have spacing and comma problems, such as the overview after “members.” Practise building shorter, accurate comparison sentences first, then combine them using subordinate clauses and check subject–verb agreement.
