Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main categories and report several figures from the category table, including the equal 38% shares for children’s and adult fiction. You also describe the overall rise in loans, with a dip after 2011. However, the response only partially summarises the visuals: it gives no figures for the age profile, despite listing the age groups, and the overview that “adults got more loans” confuses the proportion of library members with the share of loans. Some trend figures are inaccurate: loans were about 21,000 in 2011, 20,700 in 2012, 20,700 in 2014 and 21,700 in 2016, rather than 22,000, 21,000 and 23,000. Include a clear overview and compare the key features across all three visuals.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an opening, a paragraph on the categories, a paragraph on the time trend, and a conclusion. Sequencing is generally understandable, and transitions such as “Firstly,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help signal movement between points. However, “On the other hand” does not express a clear contrast here, and the conclusion repeats the fiction-category figure without bringing the main trends together. The first paragraph also moves from age groups to loan categories without reporting the age data, which weakens progression. Group related information more clearly and use linking phrases to show actual comparisons, such as the dominance of adults in membership and the equal shares of the two fiction categories.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “total number of loans,” “age bracket,” “slight decrease,” and “category,” so the reader can follow the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate: “loan got by library members,” “loans have passed,” and “loans have gotten” are not natural ways to describe the data. Spelling errors such as “catagory” and “reaced” also reduce accuracy. Use precise reporting language consistently—for example, say that loans “rose to” a figure, “stood at” a level, or “accounted for” a percentage. This would make the description clearer and more appropriate to an academic chart summary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more developed sentences, and the sequence of years is mostly expressed in a way that can be understood. However, grammatical control is uneven, with recurring problems in agreement, articles, tense, and sentence construction. For example, “the member of library are childrens” has errors in number and agreement, while “This figure is increased year by year” uses an incorrect verb form. The phrase “adults who are in age bracket” also lacks an article, and “In 2014, 21000 loans have gotten” has an unsuitable tense and construction. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and plural forms, and build complex sentences only when you can maintain correct agreement and verb patterns.
