Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the general subject of the visuals and gives one relevant overview point: adults form the largest membership group. However, it does not summarise the main features across the charts: there are no figures for the age groups, no comparison of loan categories, and no account of how total loans changed from 2007 to 2016. The overview is also incomplete, since it mentions only membership and not the dominant loan categories or the overall rise in loans. The response is substantially below the required 150 words, leaving the task only minimally addressed. To improve, report key figures and comparisons from all three visuals, then add a concise overview of the most notable patterns.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence introduces the three visuals, followed by a separate overview beginning with “Overall”. This gives the reader a simple starting structure. However, the response ends before any supporting details or comparisons are developed, so there is no progression from overview to evidence and the charts are not discussed in a coherent sequence. The opening also compresses several ideas into one sentence, making the organisation less clear. A fuller response could use an introduction, an overview, and one or two detail paragraphs grouped by chart, with clear links such as “Regarding membership” and “By contrast, loan totals”.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a small set of relevant terms, including “users”, “loans”, “category” and “sections”, and the reader can recognise the general topic. However, the vocabulary is limited and some combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “data of users age” and “maximum users of library”. “Amount of loans” is also less suitable for describing a count than “number of loans”. Because the response contains very little detail, it does not demonstrate the range of vocabulary needed to describe proportions, rankings or trends. Use precise chart language such as “proportion”, “accounted for”, “rose” and “remained relatively stable”, ensuring that each term accurately matches the data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response contains two complete sentences, and the second uses an introductory adverbial phrase, “Overall”, to signal a summary. Meaning is generally recoverable, but grammatical control is uneven. In “users age on four category”, the possessive construction and plural form are missing; “how loans were divided into seven sections” is also awkwardly formed. In “the maximum users of library were adults”, the noun phrase needs an article and a more appropriate superlative construction. The sentence patterns are simple, with little evidence of a wider range. Practise accurate plural and possessive forms, articles, and comparisons, then combine these reliably in sentences describing the chart data.
