Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The response covers all three visuals and gives a clear overview of the main patterns: adults aged 18–64 form the largest membership group, fiction leads the loan categories, and loans rise overall. The reported membership and category percentages are accurate, and the comparison between the two 38% fiction categories is useful. The trend description also captures the broad increase from about 15,700 to 21,700. To make the account more fully developed, report key fluctuations in the loan chart: loans rose to around 21,000 in 2011, fell to about 19,600 in 2013, then increased again. The claim that loans increased “by a third” is a reasonable summary, but the intermediate pattern deserves more precise treatment.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response is organised effectively into an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for membership, loan categories, and the time series. This gives the reader a clear progression through the visuals, and linking phrases such as “Overall,” “whereas,” and “By contrast” help signal comparisons. The main limitation is that the final paragraph compresses the decade’s changes into a broad range, so the sequence of rise, dip, and recovery is not clearly connected. Some repeated wording, particularly “the total number of loans,” also makes the cohesion slightly less flexible. Use concise references such as “this figure” and connect the turning points explicitly to strengthen the progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Vocabulary is adequate for describing charts, with useful terms such as “accounted for,” “followed by,” “proportion,” and “ranged between.” The response also uses comparison language appropriately. However, some choices are imprecise or unnatural: “most popular category of books” is not ideal for loan data, and “least famous categories” does not accurately describe the smallest shares. There are also spelling errors, including “porportion,” “clidren’s,” “accoutning,” and “yound.” Prefer precise chart language such as “largest share,” “smallest proportion,” and “loan category.” Proofreading spelling and choosing more natural collocations would make the vocabulary more controlled and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and more complex structures, including the overview contrast with “whereas” and the comparison beginning “By contrast.” Most sentences communicate the intended information clearly. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “51 percentage of its member,” the percentage expression and singular noun form are incorrect; write “51% of its members.” The sentence “The most popular category … were” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “the lowest percentage was for” is an awkward construction that could be recast as “children’s DVDs had the lowest share.” There is also inconsistent use of articles and number forms. Greater accuracy in agreement and noun phrases, alongside the existing sentence variety, would improve control.
