Student answer (Band 7.0)

The charts provides data about the Little Chalfont Library. The pie chart illustrates the library's members age percentages, whereas the table presents the total loans in each category, in 2016. Additionally, the bar chart demonstrates the total number of loans between 2007 and 2016.

Overall, The majority of the Chalfont library's members are adults, while the rest of the age groups are of similar ranges. Most of those members prefer adult fiction or children's fiction, as shown by the percentage of loans. Meanwhile, chidren's DVDs are the least for a member to loan. Moreover, the number of loans from 2007 until 2016 kept on growing, despite of some fluctuations.

Adults from age 18 to 64 account for 51% of the library's members, followed by children with 22%. Young adults, ranging from 13 to 17 years old, rank second with 15%, while adults aged 65 or over only represent 12% of the library's members.

Moreover, members prefer children's fiction and adult fiction equally, and the total loans of those two categories account for 76% in 2016. Adult non-fiction category ranks second with 13% of loans, while children's non-fiction followed with 6%. Additionally, each of young adults and adult audio books categories represent about 2%, whereas children's DVDs rank last with 1%.

Between 2007 and 2016, the total number of loans kept on increasing, untill it peaked by 2011 at 21000 loans , before slightly declining. Then it grew again, leveling at 22000 loans by 2016.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0

You cover all three visuals and select the main features effectively: adults aged 18–64 form the largest membership group, fiction accounts for the largest loan shares, and total loans rise overall despite fluctuations. The figures for the age groups and loan categories are accurately reported, including the equal 38% shares and the 1% for children’s DVDs. The trend description also identifies the 2011 high and subsequent dip, though the final figure is given as 22,000 rather than the chart’s approximately 21,700. This is a minor imprecision; the overall account remains well developed and relevant. To strengthen it further, report the ending value more precisely and avoid saying loans simply “kept on increasing,” since the series includes several declines.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response is organised in a clear sequence: an introduction, an overview, then paragraphs covering membership, loan categories and the time trend. This makes the information easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Moreover” and “Additionally” help signal relationships. The overview successfully brings together the main comparisons across the visuals. Some transitions are slightly repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “Moreover” and “Additionally,” and the final trend paragraph could connect its stages more smoothly. For example, distinguish the rise to 2011, the decline to 2013, and the subsequent recovery. More varied, precise linking and clearer references would make the progression feel less formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use a suitable range of task vocabulary, including “account for,” “represent,” “fluctuations,” “peaked” and “declining,” and the meaning is consistently clear. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision: “members age percentages” is awkward, “similar ranges” does not clearly describe the smaller age groups, and “the least for a member to loan” is not idiomatic. “Kept on growing” is also less precise for a series that fluctuates. Spelling slips such as “chidren’s” and “untill” are noticeable. Aim for standard chart-reporting collocations, such as “age distribution of members,” “the smallest share,” and “the total number of loans increased overall.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and more complex structures, including contrast clauses with “whereas” and a time sequence with “before,” and most sentences communicate their meaning clearly. Some grammatical errors remain. The opening “The charts provides” has subject–verb disagreement, while “despite of some fluctuations” uses an incorrect construction; write “despite some fluctuations” or “in spite of some fluctuations.” Capitalisation is inconsistent in “Overall, The majority,” and the final sentence’s “peaked by 2011” uses an unsuitable preposition in this pattern. There are also punctuation and spacing slips around figures. Greater consistency in agreement, prepositions and sentence punctuation would improve accuracy while preserving the range of structures you already attempt.
