Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover all three visuals and include a relevant overview: adults form the largest membership group, fiction leads the loan categories, and loans rise overall. Several details are accurate, including the 38% shares for adult and children’s fiction and the 1% share for children’s DVDs. This meets the task well, with some features reported less fully than others. However, the membership figures are confused: adults aged 65 and over are 12%, while young adults are 15%, but these are reversed in your description. The overview also says adults make up “more than half,” although the chart shows 51%, and the final loan total is about 21,700 rather than merely “nearly 20,000.” Include a few key intermediate loan figures to make the trend clearer.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic, useful structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate discussion of the membership/category information and the loan trend. This helps the reader identify the main topics. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and several linking phrases are repetitive or awkward, such as “it is clearly shown” and “In the pie chart.” The sentence beginning “Total loan by category…” combines several comparisons without a clear sequence, while the final sentence gives only a broad trend. Organise the details into more focused comparisons—for example, membership first, then loan categories, followed by the time trend—and use clear references such as “the former” and “the latter” where appropriate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “age group,” “percentage,” “fluctuations,” and “period,” so the reader can generally understand what is being described. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning less clear. For example, “adult functions” appears to mean adult fiction, and “roses” is used where “rose” is needed; “experienced” is not suitable for describing a proportion of library members. There are also spelling errors such as “childerns.” Aim for precise terms from the charts and avoid repeating “clearly shown.” More accurate collocations such as “accounted for,” “share of loans,” and “increased” would make the report more natural and exact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur often enough to make some passages difficult to follow. For instance, “the age group of library members are adult” has a subject–verb agreement problem and an incomplete comparison, while “The total number of loans are roses” contains errors in both agreement and verb form. The opening sentence, “The charts illustrate about a public library in a town is also known as…,” is also structurally unclear. Practise building direct sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “Adults accounted for 51% of members.”
