Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You cover all three visuals and include several relevant figures, such as adults aged 18–64 at 51%, children at 22%, and the 38% shares for children’s fiction and adult fiction. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: “adults was high in all categories” does not capture the main pattern, and adults aged 65 and over were not the smallest membership group—young adults were 15%, compared with 12% for older adults. The loan trend is also misreported: it rose from about 15,700 in 2007 to 21,700 in 2016, with fluctuations, rather than reaching 24,000. Some categories are confused, including saying children’s fiction and non-fiction were both 38%. Select the key patterns accurately and summarise them clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response attempts to cover the membership chart, loan categories and yearly totals, and words such as “Overall,” “furthermore” and “moreover” show an effort to connect information. However, the ideas are not arranged into clear paragraphs or a consistent progression, so the reader has to work out where one chart’s description ends and another begins. Several details are crowded into long sequences, while the final trend description is difficult to follow. Group the response into an introduction, a concise overview, and separate detail paragraphs for the membership/category data and the time series. Use linking words only where they express a clear relationship, and make comparisons explicit rather than listing figures.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “members,” “loans,” “category,” “fiction” and “non-fiction,” so the subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several choices are repetitive or imprecise: “people who bear loans” and “persons who take loans” do not naturally describe library borrowing, while “not a very big loan” is informal and unclear. Spelling errors such as “catagories,” “mebers” and “non fictionn” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of terms for describing charts, such as “accounted for,” “share,” “borrowed” and “fluctuated,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response includes some simple sentences and an attempt at a complex opening, but grammatical control is inconsistent and errors sometimes make relationships unclear. For example, “The charts illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, and “Overall public library adults was high” lacks a clear grammatical structure. The sentence beginning “Children and young adults at the age of 13 to 17 years” is also incomplete, while “the loans that people borrowed was less is 19,000 and higher is 24,000” has faulty agreement and comparison structures. Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check singular/plural agreement and past-tense forms. Shorter, accurately controlled sentences would make the data easier to understand.
