Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover all three visuals and identify several important features: adults aged 18–64 form the largest membership group, the two fiction categories each account for 38% of loans, and loans generally rise over the period. The figures for the membership groups and loan categories are reported accurately. Your overview also notes the 2013 dip, although the trend description is not fully precise: loans fluctuate after 2010 and finish at about 21,700, rather than simply rising to “under 20000” before exceeding 20,000 in 2016. The opening calls the membership graphic a pie chart, but it is a chart of age-group proportions. To strengthen the response further, give a clearer account of the loan trend’s start, peak and end, and distinguish the smallest membership group from the smallest loan category.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to details and then an overall summary, and it groups the membership and loan-category information before discussing the time series. This gives the reader a coherent overall arrangement. However, the overview comes last, so the main trends are not established early, and the long middle section combines several chart descriptions in one paragraph. Some linking is mechanical or awkward: “Furthermore” and “meanwhile” connect details without always clarifying their relationship, while “however” begins a sentence without appropriate capitalisation. Use a separate paragraph for the loan trend and place a concise overview after the introduction. Clearer transitions and references would make the progression easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “accounted for,” “represented,” “shared the same proportion” and “increased,” so the meaning is generally clear. There is some attempt at variety, but several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “the largest numbers of library members” should refer to the largest group or share, and “senior was record lost members” does not express the intended comparison clearly. Spelling errors such as “batween” and “reprsented,” along with repeated use of “figure” and “percentage,” limit precision. Aim for accurate, natural phrases such as “made up,” “accounted for” and “reached a peak,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “while” and a time clause describing the trend. However, errors in agreement, articles, sentence boundaries and verb patterns are frequent enough to make some sentences awkward. For example, “children was at 22” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, and “the largest numbers … were adults … recorded 51” lacks a clear grammatical connection between the group and its figure. The sentence beginning “The bar charts demonstrates” also has a singular–plural mismatch, while “reached at under 20000” uses an incorrect verb pattern. Practise building complete sentences around each comparison, checking agreement and tense, and using punctuation to separate the chart descriptions.
