Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify all three visuals and report some relevant figures, including the 51% share of members aged 18–64 and the 38% share for children’s fiction. However, the response does not provide a clear overview of the main patterns, and several important comparisons are omitted: for example, adult fiction also accounts for 38% of loans, while adult non-fiction represents 13%. The trend description is partly inaccurate or too vague: loans did not remain stable from 2010 to 2012, and the rise in 2016 was not dramatic; the total increased gradually from about 15,700 in 2007 to 21,700 in 2016. To strengthen the report, summarise the dominant features first and support them with accurate comparisons across the charts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall sequence: an introduction, descriptions of the visuals, and a concluding paragraph. Linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “Meanwhile,” and “Furthermore” help signal movement between points, and the reader can follow the general organisation. However, the conclusion largely repeats the introduction rather than synthesising the main findings, and the body paragraphs do not consistently group information by the most useful comparisons. The repeated use of “the overall number of loans” also makes the progression feel somewhat mechanical. A more effective structure would give a concise overview after the introduction, then organise the details into clear comparisons, using references such as “this figure” or “by contrast” where appropriate.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “account for,” “percentage,” “remained stable,” and “increased,” so the main information is generally understandable. There is some repetition of “overall,” “number of loans,” and “displays,” which limits flexibility. A few choices are imprecise or unnatural for describing charts: “loans are provided for children’s fiction” would be better expressed as loans being “for” or “accounting for” that category, and “rose dramatically” overstates the gradual change. The phrase “the library members” is also less natural than “library membership.” Aim for precise trend language and vary reporting verbs, while ensuring that stronger vocabulary accurately reflects the data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple sentences and some more developed structures, including “while” in the introduction and “which is the highest percentage” in the description of the table. Most sentences communicate their intended meaning, and punctuation is generally clear. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “The overall number of loans are rose,” the verb construction is incorrect; use “rose” or “increased.” In “From 2010 to 2012, the number of loans remained stable,” the sentence is grammatically sound, though its factual claim needs correction. The final sentence also needs an article and plural consistency: “the bar graph shows the overall number of loans.” Continue practising accurate verb forms and articles while extending the range of sentence patterns.
