Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You cover all three visuals and include several relevant figures, such as the 22% child membership, the 38% shares for children’s and adult fiction, and the rise in loans from about 15,000 in 2007 to over 21,000 by 2016. However, the overview is unclear: “down to upward” does not accurately summarise the overall loan trend, which rose overall despite fluctuations. There are also factual errors: young adults account for 15% of members, not 12%, and the 2008, 2009 and 2013 loan totals are below 20,000, while 2012 is above it. The statement that over-65s borrowed the same as adults aged 18–64 is unsupported. Select the main patterns accurately and explain them in a clear overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic sequence: it begins with an overview, then discusses membership and loan categories before turning to the yearly totals. This gives the reader some sense of the task’s different parts. However, progression is difficult to follow because the overview is not expressed clearly, and several sentences combine unrelated details or repeat the same structure. For example, the paragraph beginning “In 2016 the children…” moves between membership and borrowing without a clear distinction. The final list of years is also hard to interpret. Use separate paragraphs for the overview, the 2016 figures, and the loan trend, and connect comparisons explicitly rather than relying on repeated “or” and “where.”
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “members,” “fiction,” “non fiction,” “audio books,” and “total number of loan.” This shows an attempt to describe both the categories and the trend. However, the range is limited, and inaccurate or unnatural combinations sometimes make the meaning difficult to understand, as in “the most categories of borrowed books” and “loan members.” Repetition of “borrowed” and “members” also reduces precision. Choose standard chart language and distinguish library membership from loans: for example, describe the “proportion of members” and the “number of loans.” Check word forms and spelling, including “non-fiction,” and use verbs such as “accounted for” or “increased” where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt a few longer sentence forms, including “The young adult are 13 to 17 age where…” and “The adults whose above 65 age…,” but these constructions are often faulty. Errors in subject–verb agreement, articles, plurals and sentence structure occur throughout, as in “adult aged members is the large number” and “The total number of loan borrowed… are.” These errors make several comparisons hard to interpret. Most sentences follow a simple pattern, so there is limited evidence of accurate structural variety. Build clearer sentences with a subject and verb, such as “Adults aged 18–64 made up 51% of members,” and check agreement and tense consistently. Use full stops to separate complete ideas.
