Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given charts provide information about a public library in the town of Little Chalfont. The pie chart illustrates the age distribution of library members in 2016, while the table shows the percentages of loans across different categories. The bar chart depicts changes in the total number of loans between 2007 and 2016.

Overall, adults accounted for the largest proportion of library members, in contrary members of 65 or above represented for the smallest proportion. Besides this, adult fiction and children's fiction accounted for highest proportion of loans, whereas children's DVDs were the smallest contributor to loans. Regarding total number of loans, it showed gradual increase over given time period.

51% of library members were adults of 18-64, largest contributors as members while, children accounted for 22% and young adults and adults of 65 and above were the smallest contributors with a difference of 3% in their contribution. Futhermore, adult fiction and children's fiction accounted for highest proportion of loans with 38%, which gradually decreased in adult non-fiction at 13%. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover all three visuals and give a relevant overview: adults form the largest membership group, fiction categories dominate loans, and total loans rise overall. Several key figures are accurately reported, including 51% for adults and 38% for each fiction category. However, some details are unclear or incomplete. The smallest membership group is adults aged 65 and over at 12%, while young adults are 15%; saying these are the “smallest contributors with a difference of 3%” obscures which is which. The loan-category summary also leaves out the specific smaller shares. In the trend description, loans do not simply rise gradually: they fluctuate after 2011, and the 2016 figure is about 21,700, not more than 22,000. More precise comparisons would make the report more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs covering the membership and loan data before the time series. This makes the main information easy to locate, and transitions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore,” and “In year 2007” help signal movement between points. The progression is generally logical, but some links are mechanical or imprecise. For example, “Besides this” does not clearly connect the loan overview to the membership comparison, and “Other books also contributed in the loans” does not specify which categories or how they compare. The final paragraph follows the years in order, but could connect the fluctuations more clearly to the overall pattern. More precise referencing and grouping of related figures would strengthen cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “age distribution,” “percentages,” “accounted for,” “declining,” and “attained.” These choices allow you to describe the charts and communicate the main comparisons. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural collocations and word choices, such as “largest contributors as members,” “proportions of loans,” and “amount of loan.” “Maintained this trend” is also vague because the figures rise from 2014 to 2016 rather than remaining level. Spelling slips such as “Futhermore” and “positon” reduce accuracy. Aim for standard chart language—such as “share of members,” “proportion of loans,” and “number of loans”—and use verbs that precisely describe whether figures rise, fall, or remain stable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including the contrast in “while the table shows…” and the time sequence in “In 2012 it started declining.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. In “in contrary members of 65 or above represented for,” the contrast phrase and verb pattern are not formed correctly; “accounted for the smallest share” would be a clearer structure. The sentence beginning “51% of library members were adults…” has a faulty construction around “largest contributors as members while,” making the comparison difficult to follow. There are also issues with articles and prepositions, as in “in year 2007” and “in reached.” Review sentence boundaries and build comparisons with parallel grammatical forms. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
