Student answer (Band 6.5)

The pie chart and table illustrate the library members age and their total loan throughout the year 2007 to 2016. We also dive deeper into the categories of total loan in 2016 through the graph.

Overall, we can see more than half of the library members are adult. Fiction is the most popular franchise for both children and adult. We also see gradual increase in the number of loans from 2007 to 2016 only seeing minor dips in the year 2011 and 2012.

51 % of the library members are adult consisting more than half of the members. Interestingly the second most popular age group are the childrens.Almost one quarter of the members are children at 22% . Young adults aged 13 to17 and older people above the age of 65 complete the other one quarter of the total members.

For the categories, both adult and childrens fiction each make up 38% of the total loans. showing the popularity of fiction among all readers. On the other hand childrens non-fiction are less popular at 6% than 13% of the adult non-fiction. DVD and audio books are't generally popular among children or adults of the library. Young adults make up 15% of the total member but surprisingly the total loans for young adults are only 2%.

On the graph we see a slight increase in the total number of loans from roughly 16000 to 22000 over the years . But in year 2012 we see it dip from 21500 to 21000. The downward trend continues till 2013 where the loan was around 19000. Then again in 2014 the upward trend makes a comeback and continues till 2016.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You cover all three visuals and identify the main patterns: adults form the largest membership group, fiction dominates borrowing, and loans rise overall across the period. The comparisons between children’s and adult fiction, and between young adults’ membership share and loan share, are relevant and supported by figures. However, some details are inaccurate: the loan chart does not show dips in 2011 and 2012; it falls after 2011, then rises in 2014 and continues upward. The description of the age groups also calls children the second-largest group, although young adults (15%) are below children (22%) but the 65+ group is smaller. More precise reporting of the sequence and clearer distinction between membership and loan data would strengthen an otherwise well-focused summary.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction and overview to membership, loan categories, and the time series. Paragraphing helps the reader follow the different visuals, and linking phrases such as “On the other hand” and “Then again” show relationships between points. Cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear, however. “We also dive deeper” is conversational rather than a precise transition, while “On the graph” does not clearly connect the final paragraph to the earlier overview. Some references, such as “it” in the discussion of the downward trend, could be more explicit. Use concise topic sentences and consistent references to “the total number of loans” to make progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing charts, including “gradual increase,” “make up,” “popular,” and “downward trend.” These choices generally communicate the comparisons clearly. Some wording is imprecise or too informal for an academic report: “dive deeper” and “makes a comeback” sound conversational, while “franchise” is not an appropriate term for fiction categories. There are also awkward collocations, such as “library members age” and “total loan,” and spelling or form issues in “childrens” and “are't.” Aim for standard chart-reporting language and accurate category names; this will make the description more precise without requiring unusually complex vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons introduced by “On the other hand” and clauses beginning with “where.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “the library members age” needs a possessive or a different construction, and “the second most popular age group are the childrens” has problems with agreement and sentence form. The sentence beginning “On the other hand childrens non-fiction…” also needs clearer punctuation and a complete comparison. Missing commas and spaces around percentages affect readability in places. Review articles, plural forms, subject–verb agreement, and sentence boundaries, while retaining your attempts to combine related information.
