Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify relevant features, including the largest membership group (adults aged 18–64) and the 38% shares for children’s fiction and adult fiction, and you note that children’s DVDs account for the smallest share. However, the overview is incomplete: it does not summarise the main pattern in loans over 2007–2016, and the statement that the smallest membership group is people aged 65 or over is inaccurate (young adults are 15%, compared with 12% for the oldest group, so this claim is correct only if referring to the chart’s figures? Actually the figures show 12% is the smallest). The loan trend is described vaguely, without the rise and fluctuations. The response also ends mid-sentence and contains only 105 words, below the required 150; this limits coverage and development. Add a clear overview and accurate comparisons across all three visuals.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response makes some attempt to group information: it begins with an introduction, gives an overall statement, and then mentions membership and loan categories before turning to the line graph. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview repeats the introduction’s focus on age rather than previewing the main features of all the visuals. Linking phrases such as “According to the chart” and “Moreover” are repeated or used mechanically, while “As well as” does not connect the following idea grammatically. The final phrase, “In ad”, leaves the response unfinished. Organise the report into a clear introduction, a concise overview, and focused detail paragraphs, using links that show precise relationships between comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “members”, “loans”, “percentage” and “smallest”, so the main subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or unnatural, such as “amount of members of library” and “amounts taken”. “Highest percentage of loans taken in 2016 above 20,000” also confuses a percentage with a number of loans, making the intended comparison unclear. Capitalisation and spelling are inconsistent in “little Chalfont” and “DVDS”. Use precise terms such as “proportion”, “membership”, and “total loans”, and distinguish percentages from totals. More varied, accurate vocabulary would make comparisons clearer and reduce repetition.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response relies mainly on short, simple statements, with little variety in sentence structure. Several grammatical errors affect clarity, including the comma after “illustrates” in “The chart illustrates, information” and the construction “adults people 18 and 64”, which lacks a clear age-range form. In “the smallest number of members of library are adults people who 65 or over”, the article and clause structure are faulty. The sentence beginning “Moreover” is also incomplete in meaning, and the response ends with the unfinished “In ad”. These errors, alongside awkward punctuation, make parts of the report difficult to interpret. Practise accurate comparison structures and complete sentences, for example, “Adults aged 18–64 made up the largest group.”
