Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You cover the three visuals and include relevant figures, especially the loan-category shares, correctly noting that children’s and adult fiction each account for 38%. You also identify the broad rise in loans by 2016 and the large adult membership group. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: 2007 is the lowest year, but the total loans were not “gradually lowest,” and the 2016 figure is about 21,700, not 22,000 as implied for 2008. The age chart reports member proportions, not which groups took the most loans, so claims about adults “taking loans” are unsupported. To strengthen the response, give a clear overview of the main patterns and distinguish membership figures from loan totals and loan categories.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation: the response begins with an overview, moves to the yearly loan figures and category shares, and ends with a brief conclusion. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression is weakened by repeated or confusing references, such as saying “In 2007” twice and then stating that 2007 had almost 22,000 loans. The long middle paragraph combines the trend chart with all category details, while the conclusion repeats the category comparison rather than synthesising the main features across the visuals. Linking words such as “while” and “and” are sometimes used mechanically or without clear sentence boundaries. Use separate paragraphs for the overview, trend, and category/member data, and connect comparisons more precisely.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “total number of loans,” “categories,” “fiction,” “non-fiction,” and “decreased” and “increased,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, making parts difficult to interpret. For example, “loans were offered” does not clearly describe borrowing totals, and “adults were on highest ranking in taking loans” confuses membership with borrowing. “Accomadting loans” is unclear, while “realivently low” appears to mean “relatively low.” Check spelling and choose precise chart language such as “accounted for,” “made up,” and “the proportion of members.” Avoid repeating “offered” when describing both loans and categories.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer sentences and comparisons, but sentence structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make several statements hard to follow. For instance, “In 2007, almost 16500 number of loans were offered … and in 2007, almost 22000 loans were offered” has unclear structure and repeated time reference. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “children’s fiction were offered” and “adult fiction were able,” and the sentence beginning “while numbers decreased in 2013” is not properly joined to the preceding sentence. Punctuation and spacing also need attention, particularly missing spaces after full stops and commas. Practise accurate simple comparison sentences first, then combine them using controlled clauses and consistent past-tense forms.
