Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main age-group contrast and note that fiction dominates the 2016 loan categories, including the shared 38% figures for children’s and adult fiction. However, several key details are inaccurate or unclear. The chart shows loans rising from about 15,700 to 21,700, not exceeding 25,000, and the series fluctuates rather than increasing consistently. The statement that loan percentage “experienced an upward trend in 2016” is also unclear: the category shares are a single-year breakdown, not a trend. The overview should summarise both the broadly stable loan totals after their initial rise and the largest/smallest categories, while the age overview should mention children and young adults as well as adults.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two detail paragraphs. This gives the reader a coherent route through the charts, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore,” and “However” help connect points. Some progression is weakened by unclear or contradictory statements, particularly “Loan percentage experienced an upward trend in 2016” and “By the end of the period was the biggest number of loans.” The final paragraph also describes a “consistent” increase despite the chart’s rises and falls. Organise the overview around the main comparisons, then group the age and category figures separately from the loan trend. Clearer references to which chart or measure is being discussed would make cohesion less dependent on general linking words.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “overall trends,” “total loans,” “peak,” and “made up,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There are, however, some inaccurate or awkward choices that reduce precision. “Loaned books’ category” is not a natural description of the chart, and “loan percentage experienced an upward trend” misrepresents the category breakdown. “The biggest number of loans” is also less precise than describing a total or figure. Spelling slips such as “weel,” “throught,” “experieced,” and “consistant” are noticeable, although they do not prevent understanding. Aim for accurate collocations and use vocabulary that distinguishes a proportion from a change over time.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including the introductory clause “while people aged 65 or older…” and the comparison beginning “Furthermore.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. In “with older people … made up only 12%,” the structure after “with” should be revised, for example, “while older people … made up only 12%.” The sentence “By the end of the period was the biggest number…” lacks a clear subject, and “it … increase to peak” needs a correctly formed verb pattern, such as “it increased and peaked.” There are also tense inconsistencies when describing the completed period. More controlled sentence construction and consistent past-tense reporting would improve accuracy.
