Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several key features: adults aged 18–64 form the largest membership group, fiction accounts for the largest share of loans, and borrowing rises overall from 2007 to 2016. The figures for the 2016 membership and the combined 76% share for children’s and adult fiction are accurate. However, the trend is described too generally: loans did not rise steadily, as they fluctuated after 2011 before reaching their highest point in 2016. The remaining 49% of members is also not broken down, and several loan categories are not reported individually. The response is 144 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 11 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Develop the trend and category comparisons more fully to make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an overview followed by paragraphs on membership and loans, and the reader can follow the main comparisons. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In 2016,” and “In 2007” help signal the focus of each section. However, the progression within the loans paragraph is not fully clear: “It kept following the trend” is vague, and the account skips the fluctuations between 2011 and 2016. The overview also combines several points in a long sentence, making the comparisons less easy to process. Use clearer references and organise the loan trend chronologically, noting the rise, subsequent variation, and final peak.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “library users,” “total number of loans,” “upward trend,” and “collectively,” so the main information is generally clear. There are also attempts to vary wording, such as “borrowed” and “loans.” Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “most demanding category to borrow” does not express the intended meaning, and “kept following the trend” is imprecise. Spelling errors such as “categoris” and inconsistent capitalisation in “Little chalfont” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise chart language and check spelling; for example, describe categories as having the largest share of loans rather than being “demanding.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and several sentences communicate the data clearly, including “The remaining 49% of library users were children, young adults and adults whose age was 65 or over.” However, some errors in agreement, articles, tense, and sentence construction remain. For example, “The charts provides” should use a plural verb, while “total number of loans were” has a singular head noun and needs “was.” The phrase “adults between 18-64 of age” is not grammatically well formed, and “shown the upward trend” needs an appropriate past-tense verb form. Review subject–verb agreement and use consistent past tense when reporting the historical figures.
