Student answer (Band 6.0)

The pie chart illustrates the propotion of various age groups of library members, while the table and bar graph represents the information on the category and number of loans in Little Chalfont Library in 2016.

Overall, it is evident that the major proportion of library is filled with adults. Furthermore loans were significantly taken in 2016 mostly in two categories(i.e. adult fiction and children's fiction).

In 2016, nealry half of the library member where adults (18-14) which accounted to the largest segment. This was then followed by children with more or less a quater of the share . At the bottom of the spectrum lies young adults and adults above 64 with 15% and 12 % of the share respectively.

Loans with children's fiction and adult fiction stand at euqual number with 38%, following this is adult fiction with 13% after that is children's non fiction with 6 %, next in line are young adults, adult audio books and children's DVDs with nearly 2 % and 1%.

The number of loans witnessed signifiacant rise from 2007 to 2016 with an increase of approximately 5,000 of loans. In 2007 this was just abover 15,000 which peaked to roughly 21,000. Then there was a slight decline in 2013 with number of loans just under 20,000 rising back to 22,000 in 2016.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover all three visuals and identify several important features: adults form the largest membership group, fiction accounts for the largest loan shares, and total loans rise overall across the period. The overview is relevant, but “the major proportion of library is filled with adults” is imprecise, and the age figures are partly misreported: adults aged 18–64 are 51%, not “nearly half” aged 18–14, while children are 22%, rather than roughly a quarter. The loan-category paragraph also repeats adult fiction where adult non-fiction should appear. Your account of the trend is broadly accurate, though the peak is about 21,700 in 2016, not simply 22,000. More precise reporting and checking category labels would strengthen coverage.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, then separate paragraphs for membership, loan categories and the time trend. This makes the three visuals easy to locate, and sequencing phrases such as “This was then followed by” and “Then” help guide the reader. However, some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated “following this,” “after that” and “next in line” in the category paragraph. The overview’s reference to the “major proportion” is also unclear, and the category sequence is harder to follow because adult fiction is repeated. Use more precise referencing and group related figures into comparisons—for example, the two 38% categories together, followed by the smaller shares.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “accounted,” “segment,” “peaked” and “decline,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal descriptions such as “at the bottom of the spectrum,” although this sounds less natural for describing chart values. Several spelling errors—“propotion,” “nealry,” “quater,” “euqual” and “signifiacant”—reduce accuracy. Some word choices are imprecise or awkward: a library is not “filled with adults,” and loans are not “taken” in categories; members or loans are better described as making up a share. Aim for accurate collocations and proofread spelling, while retaining the useful range of reporting verbs you already attempt.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple statements and more complex forms, including “while the table and bar graph…” and “with an increase of approximately 5,000,” so there is some structural variety. Meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors remain. In the introduction, the plural subject “the table and bar graph” takes “represent,” not “represents.” In “library member where adults,” the verb should be “were,” and the age range should be expressed as “aged 18–64.” The sentence beginning “At the bottom of the spectrum lies…” has awkward inversion and needs clearer parallel phrasing. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces before parentheses and around percentages. Check agreement, verb forms and sentence boundaries to make the varied structures more consistently accurate.
