Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify two relevant features: adults aged 18–64 form the largest membership group, and children’s and adult fiction each account for 38% of loans. However, the response only partially reports the charts. The overview says loans rose by “about 50000,” which is not supported: the total increases from approximately 15,700 in 2007 to 21,700 in 2016, a rise of about 6,000, and the trend includes fluctuations rather than a steady increase. The membership figures are also assigned in the wrong order: 51% are adults aged 18–64, while 22% are children, 15% are young adults and 12% are older adults. The loan-category discussion is unfinished, and the line chart receives little detail. Select accurate key figures and summarise all three visuals.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is an attempt to organise the response with an opening, an overview beginning “overall,” and a paragraph giving details. This gives the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, progression is limited: the overview combines membership, loan categories and the trend in one long sentence, while the final paragraph shifts between membership and loans without a clear sequence. The response ends abruptly after “while,” leaving the comparison incomplete. Linking words such as “Moreover” and “Consequently” are used, but the latter does not accurately express the relationship between the data and the claimed increase. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and chart details, group related figures together, and complete each comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response attempts task-related vocabulary, including “percentage,” “categories,” “total loan consumption” and “progressive increase.” These choices show an effort to describe data, but the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, sometimes making the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “staff” refers to library employees rather than members, and “consume the majority of total loan” is an awkward way to describe loan shares. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “catagories,” “liberary” and “adudts,” alongside inconsistent capitalisation of the library’s name. Use precise chart language such as “members,” “account for,” “share of loans” and “number of loans,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use subordinate clauses, for example, “while the children’s fiction and adult fiction consume the majority of total loan.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors recur in basic sentence construction. The opening, “This pie chart gives the data of public library,” is missing an article and does not accurately introduce the multiple charts. In “they share the total percentage of 22,15,12 and 51 respectively,” the pronoun reference and the order of the figures are unclear. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and a sentence that trails off at “while.” Practise writing shorter, complete sentences with clear subjects and accurate articles, agreement and punctuation before combining ideas.
