Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover the three visuals and identify several key features: adults aged 18–64 form the largest membership group, adults aged 65 and over the smallest, fiction categories each account for 38% of loans, and loans rise overall across the period. These comparisons are relevant and mostly accurate. However, some details are less fully reported: the overview says loans decreased and then increased, but does not convey that the overall series fluctuated around 19,000–22,000 after 2010. The statement that the two fiction categories comprised “the third /fourth” is unclear, and the combined 24% for the remaining categories is not explained as a comparison. More precise reporting of the chart’s main pattern and clearer interpretation of the figures would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic overall structure: an opening overview is followed by details about membership, loan categories and the time series. This helps the reader identify which visuals are being discussed. However, progression within and between paragraphs is limited, and the final two paragraphs repeat the loan trend already mentioned in the overview. Linking words are sometimes awkward or inaccurate: “Although” begins sentences without a contrasting clause, while “While” introduces a fragment rather than a complete comparison. Grouping related information into clearer paragraphs and using transitions to show genuine contrast or sequence would make the organisation more coherent. Avoid repeating the same trend and use references such as “this figure” only when their meaning is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic vocabulary to describe the visuals, including “total number of loans,” “children’s non-fiction,” “decreased” and “reached.” Some attempts at varied trend language, such as “escalated,” show an effort to avoid repetition. However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or unclear: “loan taken by” and “loans taken by for” do not describe library borrowing naturally, and “comprised the third /fourth” is difficult to interpret. Spelling errors such as “chaltfont” and “Chilldren” also reduce accuracy. Choose standard chart-reporting phrases and check spelling carefully; this will make your meaning more precise without requiring more elaborate vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and more complex sentences, including a sentence describing the rise, fall and later recovery in loans. The main information is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “The loan taken by children's fiction and adult fiction was comprised” has an unclear subject and faulty construction, while “Although, the value decreased” uses a subordinating conjunction without completing the contrast. The sentence beginning “While, all others…” is also incomplete. There are issues with articles, agreement and punctuation, including “adults(18-64)” and inconsistent sentence boundaries. Practise forming complete comparison clauses and use “although” within a full sentence; this will improve control while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
