Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main features of the 2016 charts, including the largest membership group and the two leading loan categories, and you give several accurate percentages. However, the overview says adults had the highest share of loans, when the age chart shows their share of members; the loan-category chart instead shows children’s and adult fiction tied at 38%. The line graph is also described as covering 2017 to 2016, although it runs from 2007 to 2016. Your account of the trend begins with the 2007 figure but ends mid-sentence, so the key pattern—an overall rise with fluctuations, reaching its highest point in 2016—is not reported. Covering the charts is relevant, but some features are unclear or incomplete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction and overview are followed by separate paragraphs for the membership chart, category table and loans graph. This makes the information easy to locate, and transitions such as “According to” and “In terms of” help signal topic changes. However, “vice versa” in the introduction does not clarify the relationship between the charts, and the overview’s reference to adults’ share of loans blurs the distinction between membership and borrowing data. The final paragraph stops after “increased dramatically and continue,” leaving the graph discussion without a completed comparison or conclusion. More precise referencing and a complete final paragraph would make the progression more coherent.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “accounted for,” “largest share,” “substantial,” and “total number of loans.” These expressions help you describe proportions and identify prominent categories, and the meaning is generally clear. Some choices are imprecise or unnatural for chart reporting: “highest sellers” suggests sales rather than loans, “table chart” is awkward, and “loans provided by the library” is less exact than describing loans made or borrowed. “Dramatically” also overstates the change from the 2007 figure without a completed comparison. This performance shows some awareness of more formal vocabulary, but greater precision and more natural collocations are needed for stronger control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the contrast introduced by “while” and the clause beginning “whereas,” and most of the chart descriptions remain understandable. Some errors affect accuracy: “from 2017 to 2016” gives the wrong date range, “the figure increased dramatically and continue” has an inconsistent verb form and is left incomplete, and the comma in “in 2007, was around 16,000” incorrectly separates the subject from its verb. The phrase “adults held 15% and 12%” also leaves the groups unclear. Check tense consistency, sentence completion and punctuation, especially when comparing figures. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen this criterion.
