Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response makes a relevant attempt to describe the library charts, and it correctly identifies that adults made up more than half of members in 2016. However, it stops after 47 words, well below the required 150, and therefore leaves almost all of the task unaddressed. It gives no account of the loan-category figures and does not describe the overall loan trend from 2007 to 2016, which rose overall despite fluctuations. The comparison between young adults and members aged 65 and over is also left incomplete. To improve, provide a clear overview covering the main patterns across all three visuals, then support it with selected figures and comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence introduces the charts, followed by an overview signalled by “Taking a bird's eye view”. This gives the short text a recognisable beginning and a simple progression. However, the response ends in the middle of an idea (“adults 65”), so the comparison is not completed and the reader cannot follow the intended point. There are no developed paragraphs or links between the different chart types, and the loan information is not incorporated. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and key details, and connect the member profile, loan categories and yearly trend with clear references such as “By contrast” or “Regarding loans.”
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response shows some ability to use topic-related vocabulary, including “public library”, “proportion” and “joined library”, and the phrase “Taking a bird's eye view” attempts to introduce an overview. However, several choices are awkward or imprecise: “chats” does not accurately name the visuals, “information about the data” is redundant, and “a little difference was noted” is unclear. The vocabulary range is too limited to describe the three sets of information, especially the loan categories and changes over time. Aim for precise chart language such as “charts”, “accounted for”, “share”, “loan total” and “fluctuated”, and use it to report specific comparisons.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a longer sentence with a contrast introduced by “while”, showing some willingness to go beyond simple statements. However, control is uneven. In “information about the data of public library”, the article and noun relationships are not handled accurately; “more than a half of proportion adults joined library” has problems with articles, word order and the grammatical form of the comparison. The final phrase, “adults 65”, is incomplete and leaves the sentence unfinished. These errors make parts of the meaning difficult to interpret, and the very short sample offers little evidence of varied sentence structures. Practise complete sentences with accurate articles and comparisons, for example, “Adults accounted for just over half of the membership.”
