Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify several important features accurately: adults aged 18–64 make up 51% of members, the two fiction categories each account for 38% of loans, and children’s DVDs are the smallest category at 1%. You also describe the broad rise, dip and recovery in loans. However, the overview is not fully precise: the other three age groups total 49%, which is nearly half, but the wording “almost a half” is awkwardly repeated. The graph is described as loans “by different categories,” although it shows total loans over time, and the final figure is closer to 21,700 than almost 23,000. More precise reporting of the graph and clearer coverage of the main comparisons would make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and separate paragraphs for the membership/loan categories and the time series. This helps the reader locate the main information. However, progression is weakened by repeated points: the overview and the next paragraph both state that fiction leads and DVDs are the smallest category. Linking words are also sometimes mechanical or contradictory, as in “however, it slightly fall nevertheless” and the repeated “in addition.” The final paragraph follows the years logically, but could distinguish the key stages more cleanly. Use fewer, more purposeful transitions and avoid restating details already given in the overview.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary such as “proportions,” “categories,” “accounted for,” and “peaked,” so the topic is generally clear. There is also some attempt to vary wording when describing changes. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “the pie chart breakdown the numbers,” “loans took,” and “experienced a rose” do not express the intended meanings naturally. “Staff members” misidentifies library members, while “youngsters” and “elder” are imprecise for the age groups shown. Spelling errors such as “coverd,” “acoounted,” and “laons” also reduce control. Build a more accurate set of chart-description phrases and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses joined with “however” and “in addition,” and the reader can usually understand the intended comparisons. However, errors occur in basic sentence patterns and verb forms, for example “The pie chart breakdown” and “The bar graph compare.” There are also problems with tense and agreement in “it fall” and “children … covered,” as well as awkward age constructions such as “adults with aged between 18-64.” Some sentences combine several clauses without clear punctuation, particularly the overview’s repeated “however.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, past-tense forms and sentence boundaries before adding more complex linking.
